New Patients to the Clinic need to set aside about 45 minutes. During this time you will undergo a thorough consultation, where we will discuss your complaint and ask you relevant questions about your medical history. An examination will follow (including orthopaedic and neurological tests if necessary) to discover the cause of your problem and rule out any contra-indications to treatment / red –flags. (On the rare occasion that further tests are required or we discover red flags, we would refer you back to your Doctor or another health care professional.)
Once you have been examined, you will be given a working diagnosis, which is clearly explained to you, and treatment begins if indicated.
Treatment may involve hands-on care to improve joint function and muscle movement, reduce pain and inflammation, and relieve stress on overloaded nerves, muscles and joints. Treatment is suited to the needs of the individual being treated, for example, an older patient with a very stiff spine would require a more conservative treatment approach as compared to a 25 year-old year Rugby player!
Various modalities may be used to reduce associated muscle adhesion and scar tissue including Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, Dry-Needling and Graston techniques (http://www.grastontechnique.com). In certain cases, referral to one of our on-site massage specialists may be warranted.
Specific exercise instruction is discussed with every patient in an effort to recondition weak or injured muscles, thus speeding up recovery and reducing recurrences. All of the practitioners at the Romsey Chiropractic Clinic are passionate about injury prevention and individual advice about the patient's lifestyle, work and exercise is usually shared. We aim to get you better and keep you better…. |
