Our Approach
About us
Here at the Romsey Chiropractic Clinic, we provide first class care to people of all ages that present with a variety of muscle and joint complaints, ranging from typical neck and back pain with or without arm / leg pain, to tension headaches, shoulder and elbow complaints, knee and ankle strains and postural issues. We have helped many a sportsperson overcome their injuries and improve their performance whilst also offering Shockwave Therapy services to those with persistent tendon complaints.
Whether you are a tradesman with a dodgy shoulder, an athlete with a tricky knee, a student with neck pain or a retiree with a persistently grumpy back, we are able to assess you, and in the majority of cases help you to overcome or better manage your complaint – in the rare instance that we cannot assist you, we will do our utmost to refer you to someone who is better placed to treat your specific complaint (Physiotherapist / Consultant / Podiatrist) or write to your GP.
What to expect at the first visit
We ask New Patients to arrive 5-10 minutes before their appointment time to complete a brief health questionnaire and register with the Clinic.
The Initial Consultation lasts roughly 40 minutes and is split into:
- Case History– during which we will have a good informal chat with you to take a medical history, allowing us to understand your complaint fully and to exclude any contra-indications to care.
- Examination– we will then take you through a concise but thorough examination where we will assess how you stand, move and function in relation to your complaint, using specific orthopaedic and neurological tests. We will always explain what we are doing whilst examining you and ensure you are comfortable through-out.
(Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing to see us – if it becomes necessary to remove an article of clothing gentlemen may be asked to change down to their underwear or shorts, whilst ladies may be asked to change into an examination gown)
- Findings (Diagnosis) – After your examination, we will discuss our findings with you and answer any questions you may have, as well treatment options and a management plan that makes sense to you.
In rare instances, a complaint may be beyond our scope of practice, in which case we will refer you to your GP or another health professional. Should we discover that you would benefit from a scan such as an MRI or Diagnostic Ultrasound, we are able to refer privately if this route is preferred and will discuss the various options available with you.
- Treatment– begins at the initial appointment and usually involves hands-on care to improve joint mobility and muscle movement. The aim of treatment is to reduce pain, inflammation, and mechanical stress /strain on overloaded nerves, muscles and joints, whilst improving function. Treatment is suited to the needs of the individual and in certain cases very little hands-on treatment may be necessary, and lifestyle factors coupled with a concise exercise program may be of greater benefit – we will always discuss the best option for your particular complaint.
We aim to get you better and keep you better….

Alex Dimopoulos
BSc. (SA), M. Chiro. (SA) CCEP (UK) DC
Chiropractor
Alex qualified as a Chiropractor in South Africa in 2002 with a Master’s degree from the Durban Institute of Technology (DIT) and after completing the UK Board exams in 2003, registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). Having gained experience in South-Africa, Dublin and London, he took up practice in Romsey late in 2007, settling here with his wife and young, growing family.
Alex has completed numerous post-graduate courses ranging from Spinal Stabilization to Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation programs, including the CCEP (Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner) qualification. His focus at the Romsey Chiropractic Clinic is family practice, with a strong interest in managing everyday injuries and strains which result from our modern 21st century environment, as well as more complex disc problems and tendinopathies. With regards the latter, he became certified in Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) in 2018, and the clinic invested in the most evidence-based Shockwave equipment available to treat chronic tendon issues, joining a small emerging group of Chiropractors to do so at the time. He is a member of the British Shockwave Association which allows for inter-disciplinary education between a range of professions, including Orthopaedic Surgeons, Physiotherapists and Chiropractors to name a few.
Having been involved in athletics and rugby through-out his schooling career, Alex understands the discomfort others may be going through when injured and is an advocate of early intervention and management to achieve the best results. He believes that many everyday injuries, aches and pains are preventable, and is passionate about educating patients on postural and lifestyle factors which can aid in self-management of even the most painful conditions.
He also holds a BSc. in Applied Chemistry (UND, SA 1996) and in his spare time enjoys running about with his 3 children, watching the Springbok Rugby Team do their thing, and keeping fit by pretending to cycle and SUP.
