Massage Therapy

(Sports, Remedial, Deep Tissue)

Massage and soft tissue manipulation is an excellent way to address muscular tension, stiffness and pain. It works by breaking up myofascial adhesions and trigger points (bands and knots of muscular tension which can be a notable source of pain), improving blood flow and stimulating neuromuscular activity, effectively ‘switching on’ tight tired muscles.

Our modern 21st century lifestyle contributes to many of us sitting in awkward postures for prolonged periods, on our computers, tablets and smart phones, all of which may contribute to muscular pain and tightness slowly building up.  Repetitive work related activities, a trip or fall as well as many everyday sporting activities can also take their toll on our flexibility, leading to tension, reduced movement through certain joints, and pain and discomfort.

Massage can benefit the office worker, the house-mom or dad, as well as the weekend / elite athlete.  Here at the Romsey Chiropractic Clinic, our massage therapists work closely with our Chiropractors, and will liaise with them should the need arise regarding a condition or complaint that is beyond their expertise.  Anna-Marie Wills, our lead massage therapist has many years of experience behind her in treating topflight athletes to everyday aches and pains suffered by elderly patients.  Her massage treatments are patient centred, and she will adapt her technique with specific therapy to suit you and your presenting complaint.

Side effects

Most people feel very good if not a little fatigued after a massage, with no severe side-effect save for possible mild discomfort the following day where the muscles have been worked on. In the case of deeper tissue or sports massage, you may possibly experience sore, achy muscles (DOMS – Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) or in rare cases, mild bruising. DOMS usually last 24 – 72 hours and are nothing to worry about – and usually occur far less after your 2nd or 3rd massage session.
